Day 29 - 300 Mile Challenge Completed!
Monday 29th Jun The weather was perfect for a 30.4 miles round trip from Newton to Moreton. This ride completes the 300 mile challenge which I've thoroughly enjoyed. I'm certainly fitter than I was a couple of months ago, and I have even found myself 'racing' against other cyclists on the various trails and roads I've ridden. It seems my competitive instincts are un-dimmed 😄
Day 26
Friday 26th Jun Another hot & sticky day, but an enjoyable 11 miles this afternoon. I'm definitely getting fitter because I'm finding some of these local hilly rides less troublesome, and my average speed is improving (a bit...). Share
Day 25
Thursday 25th Jun Phew, another scorching hot day, but I started early so not too bad. A quick local 11 mile cycle today, leaving just 40 miles to complete the 300 mile challenge. Share
Day 22
Monday 22nd Jun After a few rest days, a quick return trip from Newton to Moreton - a very hot day - but 28 miles covered. Share
Day 17
Wednesday 17th Jun 12 local miles and some long, painful hills - but pleased to say I didn't give up on any of them, I pedalled to the top on every one. Share
Day 15
Monday 15th Jun A nice day so decided to take the Exe Trail from Darts Farm to Dawlish and back. Mostly off-road trail but some public roads in Topsham, Starcross and Dawlish - flat most of the way which made a nice change :) - 28 miles in 2h 17m. Share
Day 13
Saturday 13th Jun A lovely sunny day, so a return trip from Newton to Moreton via the off-road trails. Added a few circuits of the business park at the end to round up the ride to 30.1 miles. Share
Day 12
Friday 12th Jun A nice bit of sunshine today, but with strong, gusty winds - 14.1 local miles (meaning mostly hills)... Share
Day 11
Thursday 11th Jun Heavy rain and strong winds today so just a short whizz around the block - 11 miles. I need to buy some proper cycling waterproofs! Share
Day 9
Tuesday 9th Jun Long ride (for me at least) today - 30 miles up to Moreton on Dartmoor via the Stover and Wray Valley trails. Share
Day 8
Tuesday 9th Jun A nice local ride to Totnes and back - 14.2 miles. Unfortunately got a thorn in the tyre about 3 miles from home, but decided to leave it in there and cycle home, fortunately without any problems. Just as well I did, when I got home I pulled the thorn out and... psssssss - puncture. Quickly fixed though. Share
Day 5
Friday 5th Jun I managed to get in 21 miles just outside Plymouth. No rain, not much sun, bit chilly and windy. Worth it to take a good look at RAF Harrowbeer near Yelverton. Share
Day 3
Wednesday 3rd Jun I saw a hint of sunshine so couldn't resist the opportunity for more local hills. 13.4 miles - and, of course, it rained heavily for much of that. Share
Day 2
Tuesday 2nd Jun The rain continues as does the cycling challenge - 20.4 miles today - and some truly horrible hills conquered (just). Share
Day 1
Monday 1st Jun Having been lovely and sunny for the last couple of weeks, day 1 of the challenge brings rain and gloom. Never mind, 15 wet miles completed today. Share
New bike!
Thursday 28th May My clunky dear old mountain bike is very heavy and showing its age (like me...), so I took delivery of a new bike today (a gravel bike for those interested) which will hopefully make pedalling around the Devon hills a bit easier. Oh, and it's not one of those electric bikes, it's just powered by me! Share
Training update
Monday 25th May
I'm in training for June
Wednesday 20th May Well, I've started my training for June, one week in and feeling good. I've covered about 50 miles in the first week so I need to increase that weekly target for the actual challenge. ShareThank you to my Sponsors
