Challenge complete!
Wednesday 1st JulThank you so much for your incredible donations to Prostate Cancer Research. I raised a whopping £3,539, which far exceeded my expectations. I’m genuinely touched by your generosity, but also by all the supportive comments and messages along the way.
I’m one of the lucky ones. My prostate cancer was diagnosed early thanks to my GP, followed by a fast-moving NHS. Sadly, there are many men and families who are less fortunate, and we still don’t have a national screening programme that includes those at greatest risk, including men with a family history and Black men.
This challenge has helped me integrate my prostate cancer into my wider life story. There are so many family and friends to thank, but above all, my wife Alex. She encouraged me to get my abdominal discomfort checked, supported me through diagnosis, stood by me through surgery, and helped me through the other side of a challenging recovery. I can’t thank her enough, and I love her dearly.
The challenge was to cycle 300 miles in June. That always felt like a little too achievable, so I was delighted to push on and finish with 431 miles! The internet says that’s equivalent to cycling from Clapham to Fishguard in Wales along the National Cycle Network Route 4. Maybe next year’s challenge… 🚴
Finally, I’ve been told by the team at Prostate Cancer Research that I was their top fundraiser among the 2,000+ riders (woop!), and that together this challenge has raised an amazing £254,757.31 for their work (woop woop!).
Thank you all again for your support, encouragement, and generosity. It has meant so much.

Passing 300 miles
Friday 26th Jun This week I passed the 300 mile mark.
Passing 200 miles
Sunday 14th JunThe support and donations have been astounding. I can’t thank you all enough. It’s made the challenge all the more emotional. I was one of the lucky ones, my diagnosis was caught early and treated swiftly. Others are less lucky. All your donations go towards supporting the men and families caught up in prostate cancer.
I've made some excellent progress knocking off the miles. I passed the 200 mile mark on Friday 12th June which was a relief. It feels like I can enjoy the last 100 or perhaps even push on from there. Who knows. Thanks to Phil who cycled with me from Welwyn Garden City to Cambridge the other w-e. Not heard from him since though…

The Deer Hunter
Saturday 30th MayFinal run around today. Spent it with the hinds, stags and calves of Richmond Park. Another 30° circuit. It’ll be a relief for the forecasted rain across June…
I can now ride a bike and I have the kit! On Monday the clock starts ticking. Rob told me today that in his youth, he was doing 180 miles a day. Something to aim for.
Thanks again for all your donations. This disease should be tested for to save lives. It isn’t. So, you men should demand a check up from your GP.
