I'm taking on the Run 50 Miles in October Challenge

Did you know that 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime?

I’m taking on the Run 50 Miles in October Challenge for Prostate Cancer Research to change this and help make a difference to men and their families who have been affected by prostate cancer.

Please support me during this challenge by donating what you can to Prostate Cancer Research. Every donation you make helps advance our mission to create a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.

Thank you for your support! šŸ’™šŸ§”

50 Miles in October: Why I’m Taking On the Ultimate Challenge for Prostate Cancer Research

As October approaches, the autumn chill is setting in, the days are getting shorter, and most people are looking forward to cozying up indoors. Me? I’ll be lacing up my running shoes and tackling 50 miles across the month.

Fifty miles might sound like a lot of pavement to pound—and trust me, my knees are already reminding me of what’s ahead—but every single step is going to mean something much bigger than personal fitness. This October, I’m running to raise vital funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer Research.

The Hard Reality Behind the Challenge

It’s easy to treat a 50-mile challenge as just another physical goal, but the stark statistics behind prostate cancer are what’s driving me out the door on those cold, rainy mornings:

Ā 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.Ā Ā

Ā It is the most common cancer in men, with over 52,000 fathers, brothers, partners, and friends receiving the diagnosis every year.

Ā Every single hour, one man dies from prostate cancer in the UK.Ā Ā

Think about the men in your life—your dad, your grandad, your mates, your colleagues. Statistically, almost all of us will know someone whose life is upended by this disease.

Despite how widespread it is, prostate cancer often doesn't get the airtime or early detection focus it desperately needs. When caught early, the chances of successful treatment are extremely high. The problem? Early-stage prostate cancer often shows no symptoms at all.

Why Research Matters

We’ve made incredible strides in medicine over the last few decades, but there is still so much work to be done. The money raised from this 50-mile challenge goes directly toward funding groundbreaking research aimed at:

1. Developing better, non-invasive diagnostic tests so men don't have to go through painful or invasive procedures just to get checked.

2. Treatments with fewer side effects, allowing men to live long, full lives without suffering life-altering complications.

3. Targeting advanced, aggressive strains of the disease to give men in late stages a fighting chance.

Research isn't just about laboratory tubes and data—it’s about giving people more time with their families, more milestones to celebrate, and more futures to look forward to.

The 50-Mile Goal

Breaking 50 miles down across 31 days works out to roughly 1.6 miles every single day, or several structured long runs each week.

Between work, life, weather, and sore legs, sticking to a consistent mileage plan through October isn't going to be a walk in the park. But every time I don't feel like putting my kit on, I’ll be thinking about why I started this in the first place. A few miles of discomfort is nothing compared to what thousands of men and their families face every day.

How You Can Support

I can handle the miles, but I can't reach the finish line alone. Here is how you can help me make every step count:

Ā Donate: Even the cost of a coffee makes a difference. Every penny raised goes straight toward life-saving research. (Link your donation page here!)

Ā Share the Message: Please share this post with your network. Raising awareness is just as crucial as raising money.

Ā Check Your Risk (or encourage the men in your life to): If you’re a man over 50 (or over 45 with a family history or if you're Black, as risk factors are higher), take 30 seconds to look up Prostate Cancer UK’s risk checker. Knowing your risk saves lives.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already encouraged me, donated, or shared my campaign. Here’s to 50 miles, stronger research, and a future free from prostate cancer!
