I'm taking on the Run 50 Miles in October Challenge

Did you know that 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime?

I’m taking on the Run 50 Miles in October Challenge for Prostate Cancer Research to change this and help make a difference to men and their families who have been affected by prostate cancer.

Please support me during this challenge by donating what you can to Prostate Cancer Research. Every donation you make helps advance our mission to create a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.

Thank you for your support! 💙🧡

My Updates

+7 miles

Saturday 24th Oct
Technically I have now reached my target of 50 miles but the page has included 7 extra miles that were done walking 🤷‍♀️

4 more running miles to go 💪

Short runs + park run

Saturday 17th Oct
Four runs in total. Still having problems with my calves inflaming and hoped that would help but not really.

Completed a parkrun with one of my besties. His final Scottish one - what an incredible achievement! 💪

Almost 10k

Sunday 11th Oct
Oops, I stopped my watch too quickly and missed the 10k achievement. I gave everything I had left but the hill wiped me out so I thought, that’ll do. Time to walk home. Next long run, screw the hill I’m getting the 10k 💪

Wet and windy day

Saturday 10th Oct
After shuffling through many options to negotiate the weather. I just went for it anyway. Wet, muddy and bedraggled from the wind, 3 and a half miles done ✅

Back on it

Thursday 8th Oct
Had a few challenging days which prevented me for getting my running shoes on. Pretty tired also so a wee interval run seemed manageable. Managed 2miles and happy with that 💪

First Parkrun

Saturday 3rd Oct
I wasn’t really ready for this as I’ve not had enough time on tarmac but my son keeps nipping my head so I gave in and did a Parkrun this morning. Started off okay but could feel the inflammation building in my calves after the first 2km. Wee walks to let them settle, then back on it. Even knocked 6 minutes off my PB!

Uping the game!

Saturday 26th Sep
After some downhill training runs, I thought I’d try a flatter run today.  Several intervals but managed 5 miles in total, in a respectable time, so feeling good about that 💪

Return to running

Sunday 20th Sep
I gave up running decades ago. Trail running was my thing and I thought nothing of going for a 2 hour run, completing half marathon distance. Have I been humbled in preparation for this! Also, surprising as I bag munros, play badminton and backpack for days on end. It’s starting to come back though - muscle memory is kicking in 💪
