Why am i doing this!?
Two years ago, my Bamps was diagnosed with prostate cancer. By the time it was discovered, the cancer had already spread to his spine, lungs, bones and other areas of his body.
We were told that we didn’t know whether he would even make it to the end of the year.
Fast forward two years, and he’s still here — still fighting, still going strong, and still giving us plenty of reasons to smile.
A huge part of that is thanks to the incredible efforts of the NHS, the medical teams caring for him, and the prostate cancer charities that help fund research into new treatments. The medication he is currently taking is still in human clinical trials and costs around £5,000 a month. Treatments and research like this are only possible because people are willing to support and fund them.
Seeing what my Bamps has been through has made me realise just how important that research is.
So, for someone who is normally very inactive, I’ve decided to challenge myself to get off the sofa and do something to give back.
It won’t necessarily be easy, and it will definitely push me outside my comfort zone, but if I can raise even a small amount of money to help support prostate cancer research and potentially help another family have the extra time we’ve been lucky enough to have, then every step will be worth it.
This challenge is for my Bamps — and for everyone else affected by prostate cancer.
Let’s see what this very inactive me can actually achieve!
