Why I’m walking 50 miles this October 💙
In July 2026, I received news that nobody ever expects to hear — I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
I had no symptoms whatsoever. It was discovered through a PSA blood test and, thankfully, it was caught early. Because of that, my cancer can currently be managed through active monitoring, keeping a close eye on things and taking action if anything changes.
Although I consider myself incredibly fortunate that it was found early, the last few months have still been a worrying and emotional time for me and my family. Hearing the word cancer changes your perspective on a lot of things.
That's why this October, I'm taking on the challenge of completing 50 miles for Prostate Cancer Research.
Earlier this year I actually tried to take up running, but unfortunately my knee had other ideas and I ended up injuring it! So I won't be breaking any speed records — I'll be walking most (if not all!) of the 50 miles. But every mile will mean something.
I'm doing this because I want to give something back.
Research, awareness and early detection give men like me the chance to find prostate cancer before it causes symptoms and while there are more options available. I want to help make sure that men diagnosed in the future have the best possible chance too.
If sharing my story also encourages even one man to have a conversation about his prostate health or PSA testing, then that's something worthwhile in itself.
So throughout October, I'll be putting one foot in front of the other until I've completed all 50 miles. 🚶♂️💙
If you're able to sponsor me, no matter how much, I would be incredibly grateful. Every donation will help support research into prostate cancer and hopefully make a difference to the men and families who will face this diagnosis in the future.
Thank you for reading my story, for supporting me and for helping me turn what has been a difficult few months into something positive.
50 miles. One step at a time. For everyone affected by prostate cancer. 💙
