I'm taking on the Run 50 Miles in October Challenge

Did you know that 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime?

I’m taking on the Run 50 Miles in October Challenge for Prostate Cancer Research to change this and help make a difference to men and their families who have been affected by prostate cancer.

Please support me during this challenge by donating what you can to Prostate Cancer Research. Every donation you make helps advance our mission to create a world free from the impact of prostate cancer.

Thank you for your support! 💙🧡

Still Dont Like The Trainers

Saturday 31st Oct
Thats it folks. 1 month done. Weather was really on everyone's side today after last weekends "storm" down south.  Which would have been considered a breeze by those who've ever lived in Portrush. What can I say, totally blown away by the donations. That just not something I could have ever expected to happen. Humbling isn't the word. And if people have learned about what PCR are doing then thats the whole point and even better.  Have to say I had a wobble during the week after the 12K adventure with Martin Hance, but got a second wind and pushed past 60 miles on the final day.  Thanks again to all that have donated. And finally, no, I still dont like the trainers. Didnt, dont and likely never will.

A Portswood of the Artist as a Young Man

Friday 30th Oct
Tomorrow being the last day of this sponsored challenge, I thought Id go with a bang and raise the distance target to 60 miles, up from 50. The "run in the storm" last Saturday slowed my efforts down  during this week and I knew I had to rest a bit or my legs would have fallen off. I'll tread carefully. Nice wee jog in the sun today and great to see the local artists progress as they transform the hoardings!

A Friend In Need

Saturday 24th Oct
At 06:00 AM, the world was dark, the air was still, and a fragile delusion took root in my mind: “If I run the 5K Parkrun at 9:00 AM, I can outrun the impending apocalypse.”
Come 8:30 AM, existential dread won. I chose life. I chose dryness. I stayed inside.
Enter Martin Hance.
With the silver tongue of a seasoned siren, Martin whispered a beautiful lie: “Forget the 5K. Let’s do 12K at 2:00 PM. The skies will clear, the birds will sing.”
The skies did not clear. Instead, Storm Austen descended upon us with the fury of a thousand scorned deities.
By kilometer eight, the concept of dry clothing was a distant, historical memory. By kilometer twelve, my soul was entirely waterlogged. I wasn't just wet; I was a wandering wetland.
We finally staggered back to the car park. As I stood there—shivering, broken, looking like a drowned Victorian orphan—I turned to my trusted companion for solidarity.
What did Martin do?
Martin climbed into his fortress of warmth. Martin turned the heaters up to a blissful, tropical setting. And Martin drove away into the tempest, leaving me abandoned in the asphalt wilderness.
Left to fight for survival, I dragged my sodden, defeated carcass to the nearest coffee shop. There, I stared blankly into a hot mug, questioning every life choice that led me to this moment, before humiliatingly summoning a taxi to rescue me.
Cheers, Martin. A true friend. A visionary.

Mike 'Small English Please' Hosking

Thursday 22nd Oct
Never a dull moment.  Out and about to keep the miles up "before the storm". Running past the hoardings getting painted up and look who scoots by. Non other than Mike Hosking, (75 this week BTW), on his way to Sainsbury's re-opened cafe for a small English for £6. He misses nothing that guy.

Mr Energy Drink Comes To Town

Saturday 17th Oct
Always adds some fun and motivation when you're (trying) to run with someone else.

So they say.

Reality is more like today, when Martin "Eat My Dust" Hance shows you up and sprints off in to the distance, pumped up on bananas and energy drinks. I'm sure I saw him nudge a wee old lady out of the way in to the bushes as she was holding him back from glory.

I just kept with  the steady eddy approach. Tortoise and the hare. Its not about winning. Who cares about time. I'm not bitter. But he will be sponsoring me the price of the coffee I bought him in compensation.

Pondlife

Friday 16th Oct
Started a bit late today. Because I didn't want to run. Ever. Set off but didn't allow for the sun not being there and could hardly see a thing at some parts. People popping out of nowhere in front of me. Had to think of a strategy.  Played it safe, found the wee pond and just ran round that a few hundred times and then bailed out home.

Me And A Pond

Wednesday 14th Oct
Breathless break by the breathtaking bayou. Yeah, its a pond, but lets not spoil the prose.

Took the Scenic Route

Monday 12th Oct
Obviously didn't want to go out running at all. Got started and hadn't gone far in the drizzling rain before I clocked this local monstrosity. A nation of boarded up precincts. That killed any enthusiasm dead on the spot. Didn't give up and walk home. Took a pic, turned the corner and cracked on. Ended up enjoying it.

Nice Trainers

Saturday 10th Oct
Steady as you go. New-ish route here for me, just the one long hill of pain and its ok from there to the end. Top weather.  Fab. That's the good part. Now to spoil it - Still don't like the trainers. In fact, I'm starting to hate them. But they are meant to be good ones according to those that know. If they keep me out of A+E until I finish the challenge at end of October, I will remain friends with them. Nice trainers. Good trainers.

Let me in

Saturday 10th Oct
Go on, stop messing about Let me in. I don't want to run 5K this morning.

Well that was NOT expected

Friday 9th Oct
What can I say. Massive thanks to everyone who has  joined in and donated. Fantastic. Have to say on the first day it dawned on me :  "Hold on a minute. How the hell am I going to raise a single penny?".  And here we are, We've hit the target. There is great reading about the charity and the work they do on the site and I've learned plenty. Thanks again. It will add a spring to my already 'bouncy new trainers step' for the 5K run tomorrow morning. Fab.

Parkrun Southampton

Saturday 3rd Oct
Big thanks to Simon who called my bluff and sponsored me to run 5K at short notice!

Off We Go

Thursday 1st Oct
Day 1. Lets crack on with this. See how far we get.

Bit too trendy for my liking, but they do the job

Tuesday 29th Sep
Bought these a good while back. Taking on this challenge helps ensure they actually go on my feet for a month. Surely that's worth sponsoring alone.

Thank you to my Sponsors
